SFNA December 2013 e-news

Happy Holidays!
I hope your holiday season and end of 2013 is going just as well as mine has.
There are a few major things that are of interest to South Frankfort and I need to pass along the information to you.
First – the annual Frankfort Jaycee Christmas parade scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, 12/7 has been cancelled due to the inclement weather. At the moment it has not been rescheduled, but if we hear word, then please check the SFNA facebook page.
Second – earlier this year, SFNA participated in a workshop that was funded by a Greening America’s Capitals grant. We are pleased to announce that the design plan has been finalized and here is a link – http://www.epa.gov/piedpage/pdf/greencapitals/greening-americas-frankfort.pdf.
With this information, several of our neighbors are collecting signatures to present to the City Commission on Dec. 9.  There will be a table in the Paul Sawyier Public Library lobby on Sunday afternoon (12/8) if you’re interested in supporting this.  You could also email your name and address to Jen Williamson at jen@spanglerwilliamson.com.
Also, if any of you would be interested in collecting 10 signatures, please print out the attached petition and drop it off on Sunday at the Library, or to Natalie Wilkerson at 510 Ann anytime before Monday at 3 pm.
The urgency about this petition is that the City Commission has called a special meeting on Monday, 12/9 to discuss projects for 2014 and we encourage you to review the information and let Jen or Natalie know if you are interested in supporting the projects. A copy of Monday’s city commission work session and special called meeting agenda is also attached.
Third – Saturday, 12/7 from 11-1:30 is the Simon House’s Christmas Market and Brunch at the Frankfort Country Club. If you are interested in venturing out tomorrow, then please consider stopping by and supporting one of our great neighborhood organizations.
Fourth – The SFNA Board is planning on meeting soon to discuss speaker ideas for the January 2014 SFNA Quarterly meeting. Please respond to this e-mail if you have a suggestion.
Fifth – When students return to schools on 1/6/14 after the winter break which starts on 12/23, graduating seniors will have an opportunity to review and submit an application for the SFNA Randy Bacon Memorial Scholarship. The application will be delivered to the guidance counselor that week for distribution to the seniors.
Please stay safe and warm this weekend during this winter weather.
We wish you and your family all the best during this holiday season!
Katie Carney (Bond) and everyone on the SFNA Board

The South Frankfort Neighborhood Association will hold its quarterly meeting this Thursday, 9/26 at the South Frankfort Presbyterian Church (enter the Fellowship Hall from West Third Street). The doors will open at 6 p.m. for a social hour complete with a chili dinner (donations will be accepted for our scholarship fund). At 7 p.m. the meeting will begin with a speaker presenting on radon detection in our homes and we will also receive an update on the JLUS neighborhood meetings. SFNA e-news 5 Sept 2013 / weekend events

Dear Neighbors,

Tonight your SFNA board will meet to discuss the agenda for the upcoming quarterly meeting. If you have any suggestions, then please let us know. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for either Thursday, September 19 OR Thursday, September 26 (pending confirmation from one speaker and EC/Board schedules).

Also, please mark your calendar for the annual SFNA fall event! On Sunday, October 6, in the afternoon, SFNA will host a fall festival – location is still being confirmed. We are wanting this event to be an opportunity to meet our neighbors and show all of Frankfort some of the glory that South Frankfort has to offer! If you are interested in a booth, volunteering, or helping with the organization of the festival, then please respond to this e-mail.

This weekend, please consider participating or showing support for two wonderful events. The Kentucky Senior Games will be happening, schedule attached. On Friday, September 7, they will have their opening ceremonies based in the Downtown Frankfort area and there will be two separate 5k walks/runs along Wilkinson Blvd and from what I can tell by the map they will be using the Riverview Trail! Please check out their website for additional information. http://www.kentuckyseniorgames.com/

On Saturday, September 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. wander down to Riverview Park for the annual Frankfort Kentucky’s River Fest to help keep the Kings Center afloat, flyer attached. Coincidentally, SFNA has been challenged to a canoe race against residents of North Frankfort and we are waiting to see if anyone from Montrose Park neighborhood will also compete against the two of us. I will join our Vice Chair, Jennifer Oberlin, on Saturday afternoon in our race, the time will hopefully be posted on our Facebook page. But we encourage you to come cheer us on or participate in the overall festival. The Kings Center is a great resource our community has to provide programming year-round for our youth. http://www.kingscenter.org/.

Looking forward to seeing you around our town,
Katie Carney and your SFNA Board
