Governor’s Mansion centennial

The Kentucky Governor’s Mansion reaches an historic milestone this year, turning 100 years old on Jan. 20. This national landmark has been home to twenty-five Kentucky governors and has served as an impressive setting for welcoming dignitaries from across the globe as well as the citizens of the Commonwealth.

The Centennial is being marked with a yearlong celebration of events honoring the Mansion’s architectural, social and political history. Some of the many celebratory events include the premiere of a new documentary about the mansion’s 100 year history, a mansion symposium, a special legacy project involving all 120 Kentucky counties and more.

SF Neighborhood events the week of 2/12/14

Dear Neighbors,
There are a few important events of interest that affect South Frankfort or the downtown area.
Please consider participating if your schedule allows.
Wednesday, 2/12 – West Main and Capital Avenue will be closed from possibly 12 till 1 p.m. for a march to the Capitol building. The newspaper clipping mentions the far right lane heading south to the Capitol.
Wednesday, 2/12 – The City of Frankfort will be hosting a community meeting to discuss the Greening America’s Capitals project that SFNA was involved with. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the Second Street School cafeteria. SFNA submitted a letter of support to the city regarding the Bridge Street and Second Street intersection. Attached are various documents that provide more information.
Friday, 2/14 – The first KECU Art Walk will be held in South and Downtown Frankfort from 5-8 p.m. If you have been by Bridge Street area, you surely have noticed some new storefront editions. Please stop by during the Artwalk and show your support. While out and about then head across the river and check out the great stores and art available downtown.
As a side note regarding the school system, attached is a donation request letter for Project Graduation at FHS.
As another side note and our school system, there is still time for seniors to submit an application for SFNA’s Randy Bacon Memorial Scholarship – it and our bylaws (to determine residency boundaries) are attached.
Final attachment is our membership application (make note of the new mailing address).
Also, keep in mind that we will hold officer elections at the July meeting and we are in need of someone to facilitate the nomination process. Most of the current executive officers are not eligible to be elected in their current positions for another term and we will need some new individuals to replace those on the Full Board.
Thanks for your consideration with all of these events and SFNA business. We are all looking forward to Spring arriving soon!
Katie and your SFNA Board.

SFNA Quarterly Meeting / Scholarship / Membership

The South Frankfort Neighborhood Association will have their next quarterly meeting on Thursday, January 30, 2014. The meeting will be held at the South Frankfort Presbyterian Church on the corner of Steele Street and West Third. Please enter the Fellowship Hall through the West Third Street entrance.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. for a social hour which includes dinner (donations will be accepted to support the SFNA’s Randy Bacon Memorial Scholarship). The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and the primary agenda items will be an update from the Frankfort Sewer Department regarding the separation of the combined sewer/storm water systems. The chair will present an update from the Riverfront Development Committee. The Membership Development and Officer Nominations Committee is still in search of a chair/coordinator to compile suggested nominees to become officers for the 2014-2015 term beginning in July. The Beautification and Community Events Committee will present on some tentative activities planned in April and will discuss those options with the members at next Thursday’s meeting. Please make every effort to attend this meeting – we are in need of committee member recruitment for tentative events for this year.

Attached below is the traditional scholarship packet we will be distributing to FISD. If you know of a graduating senior, that lives within the South Frankfort boundaries, then please pass along this packet to them. The application is to be postmarked by Friday, February 28.

Also attached below is the membership application – please note the mailing address has changed and we are no longer using a Post Office Box.

Again looking forward to seeing everyone next Thursday at our quarterly meeting. A calendar of items of interest to our organization will be compiled for the meeting – but in the meantime, I saw that FISD will have an early release day on Thursday, 1/30.

Stay safe and warm during this winter weather.
