SFNA email news 12 Aug 2011

Hello Neighbors!

Well school has started back, there’s a cool breeze in the air, and many exciting things are  happening!

We have started our fall newsletter preparation process and people have begun writing their articles and submitting their blurbs on important events that SFNA hosts in the fall. Newsletters will be hand delivered to all residents of South Frankfort, but in order to fulfill this goal we need volunteers. Those that have helped in the past will probably be notified by Bob, but if you are interested in delivering a street or two on your nightly walk, then please contact us. We are anticipating delivery to each home the week of September 12.

SFNA was appointed to a position on the Second Street Form Based Code Task Force. Within the order the Task Force is charged with studying the implementation of Form Based Code in Frankfort, obtaining public input on the implementation, and to report the findings and recommendations to the City of Frankfort by January 31, 2012. SFNA will e-mail meeting notifications and any additional information we receive. The initial meeting was last night, Thursday 8/11 and the meeting established who the officers would be (Brent Sweger, Chair and Charlie Booe, Vice Chair). If you are interested in receiving some additional information regarding form code, then please attend Envision Franklin County’s event on Wednesday, August 24 at 6 p.m. at Paul Sawyier.

In September and October, SFNA will host two events. September will be our annual picnic on Sunday, September 18 at Dolly Graham Park and in October we will host a community yard, bake, and plant sale. Both of these events are designed to allow neighbors to meet each other and SFNA to raise money for the Randy Bacon Memorial Scholarship fund. Additional details for each event will be available at a later date, but in the meantime, please start thinking of items to donate for the yard sale. If you would like to participate in the planning of either event then please contact Christa and she is also able to start collecting donations for the yard sale in October.

Be sure to let Jennifer know if you are interested in participating in a neighborhood program. She’s been in contact with other neighborhoods and collecting ideas. I’m sure a small meeting will happen in the near future.

Natalie with our beautification committee asked me to attach the contractor’s list to this e-mail. So while you’re cleaning things out for the yard sale, consider asking someone to help you with some repair jobs or general maintenance. If you have anyone to add to this list or a neighbor you think should be recognized for their work on their home, then please contact Natalie.

Please pick up a copy of the August issue of Capital Living. Caroline Taylor-Webb wrote a great piece on walking and biking in downtown and South Frankfort. We are anxiously waiting for September for the wonderful article by Natalie to be published showcasing South Frankfort’s history and beauty. If you are interested in helping out writing future Capital Living articles then please let Margaret know.

SFNA memberships are up for renewal as of July 1, 2011. Please see the attached membership application and mail back to the PO Box listed. Our membership dues help out with the cost of the annual picnic, newsletter expenses, other social events (clean-up day, 4th of July parade, and winter holiday activities), and also they help supplement our Randy Bacon Memorial Scholarship.

The SFNA Facebook page has about 150 followers and the e-mail distribution list is around 200. We are working on a goal of increasing both of these numbers…would 500 people on each be too much to request? Will you help make this happen?

Thank you so much for everything!
