Although we are in town, we are not immune to invasive species in our yards and gardens. Learn more here (http://forestry.ky.gov/foresthealth/Pages/InvasivePlantThreats.aspx). In particular our irreplaceable mature trees are under threat from ivy and winter creeper. It is particularly important to remove winter creeper from trees to slow its spread — start by cutting the vines at the base of the tree. (http://www2.ca.uky.edu/forestryextension/KWM/Winter%20creeper.pdf) Contact the Extension Office for more information.

EnvisionFranklinCounty February Meeting
Tuesday, February 24
6-8PM
Paul Sawyier Public Library

We’ll be discussing stormwater strategy, our upcoming meeting with the Judge Executive, and much more. Also, on Wednesday, February 25, Envision will be giving a presentation about the option of creating a stormwater utility. There is more information about that below. Hope you can join us.

Stormwater Utility Information Meeting
Wednesday, February 25, 7:30pm
Bridgeport Christian Church
175 Evergreen Rd., Frankfort, KY
Presented by Envision Franklin County

Heavy rains regularly result in flooding problems and sewage overflows in many locations in Franklin County. Our aging infrastructure is insufficient to deal with the problem, and as a result, our community faces a state lawsuit, possible fines, and damage to property, human health, and the environment.

One approach to effectively and equitably address these issues is to establish a storm water utility. This presentation will give an overview of the issues, what a stormwater utility means, and how it can help.

You are encouraged to attend if you live in and own property in Frankfort/Franklin County.
