SFNA email news, March 2015

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

We have lots of news and information for you, Spring is packed with community activities!

The next South Frankfort Neighborhood Association quarterly meeting will be held April 23rd at 6:00 p.m. at the South Frankfort Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.   Please use the Third Street entrance.   We will have a supper and social hour ($5 donation recommended for our Randy Bacon Scholarship fund), then begin the business portion of our meeting at 7:00 p.m.   We expect the meeting to run for approximately one hour.

Besides our regular Board and committee updates, our guest speaker will be Gary Mueller, Planning Director for the City of Frankfort.  Mr. Mueller will be on hand to discuss proposed changes in requirements and boundaries of the downtown historic districts.

Also making a brief presentation will be Eric Whisman from the Franklin County Trust for Historic Preservation.

All South Frankfort residents are invited to attend this meeting, and are encouraged to join our organization!  Dues are only $12 per household per year.

The 2015 recipients of our annual Randy Bacon Scholarship have been chosen and will be announced soon!  Our scholarships are awarded annually to one or more Frankfort High Senior who lives in South Frankfort.

To continue supporting our neighborhood students, we will host a SFNA Scholarship fundraiser at Casa Fiesta on May 28.  We will have more details at the quarterly meeting, but mark your calendars now for this festive event!

Although we are in town, we are not immune to invasive species in our yards and gardens. Learn more here (http://forestry.ky.gov/foresthealth/Pages/InvasivePlantThreats.aspx). In particular our irreplaceable mature trees are under threat from ivy and winter creeper. It is particularly important to remove winter creeper from trees to slow its spread — start by cutting the vines at the base of the tree. (http://www2.ca.uky.edu/forestryextension/KWM/Winter%20creeper.pdf) Contact the Extension Office for more information.
