URGENT NEWS – Singing Bridge UPDATE

URGENT NEWS – Singing Bridge UPDATE:

Transportation Cabinet District 5 is assessing engineering data which indicate that repairs are needed to the truss / structure of the Singing Bridge. The repairs will require the closure of the sidewalks to pedestrian foot traffic.

Right now it is unlikely that this closure will take place tomorrow morning (Fri 28 Aug). We await further details from District 5 and our local public safety / Streets Depts.

It is probable that we could lose pedestrian access until Spring 2016.

Monday, August 31: public neighborhood meeting for Special Historic zoned properties

note: the SH zone is the other side of the bridge from South Frankfort, our participation on this issue as City residents remains important.

With the assistance of the Ky Heritage Council’s CLG grant award and the support of the City Commission,  the Planning & Building Codes Department has been able to secure professional services and have now completed the first draft of new Historic Design Guidelines for the SH local zoning district.

The city is holding a public neighborhood meeting at the Paul Sawyier Library Monday, August 31 at 5:30 p.m. to go over the draft revised historic design guidelines proposed for the SH special historic zoning district.   Attached is a summary of the changes and the flyer that was mailed to each property owner within the SH zoning district.    The full draft of the proposal is available on line at this link: http://www.frankfort.ky.gov/sites/default/files/documents/files/full%20draft%20%281%29.pdf

6 Aug 2015: Meeting to Discuss FPB’s Search for a New Electricity Supply

Meeting to Discuss FPB’s Search for a New Electricity Supply
When:   Thursday, August 6th,  6:30 pm
Where:  Plan Graphics, 112 E. Main St., Frankfort
At the office of the Kentucky Conservation Committee
For more information, contact: Andy McDonald,  502-223-7936 or andyboeke@yahoo.com
Background Information:
In June 2014 the Frankfort Plant Board announced that they would cancel their contract with their electricity supplier, Kentucky Utilities (KU), effective as of 2019. The FPB is one of about 10 municipal utilities in Kentucky who have recently cancelled their contracts with KU, and they are working on forming a new agency to purchase power together, the Kentucky Energy Management Agency. The FPB has four years to develop their new power supply and presently (as far as we know) all options are on the table. This presents a real opportunity for the FPB to invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency, but there is also the possibility that they could invest in coal or other fossil fuel generation.
Please join us at this meeting to learn more about this issue and discuss how we can influence the FPB’s decisions, to move Frankfort to a more sustainable energy supply based on renewable energy, efficiency and conservation.
Representatives from the Sierra Club who are working on this issue statewide will be present at the meeting to share their knowledge of the issue and the work they are doing to help prepare alternative proposals for the municipal utilities.
