Background Information:
In June 2014 the Frankfort Plant Board announced that they would cancel their contract with their electricity supplier, Kentucky Utilities (KU), effective as of 2019. The FPB is one of about 10 municipal utilities in Kentucky who have recently cancelled their contracts with KU, and they are working on forming a new agency to purchase power together, the Kentucky Energy Management Agency. The FPB has four years to develop their new power supply and presently (as far as we know) all options are on the table. This presents a real opportunity for the FPB to invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency, but there is also the possibility that they could invest in coal or other fossil fuel generation.
Please join us at this meeting to learn more about this issue and discuss how we can influence the FPB’s decisions, to move Frankfort to a more sustainable energy supply based on renewable energy, efficiency and conservation.
Representatives from the Sierra Club who are working on this issue statewide will be present at the meeting to share their knowledge of the issue and the work they are doing to help prepare alternative proposals for the municipal utilities.
