Dear Neighbors,

Please check out the Kings Center bulletin board webpage. There are a few “dine to donate” dates at local restaurants where a portion of the proceeds is donated to the center. There is also a Community Block Party at Dolly Graham Park on Friday, July 8th. So please scan thru the webpage and see how you can continue to support this organization. http://www.kingscenter.org/BulletinBoard.htm.

Lately some members of the SFNA have been exploring the development of a Neighborhood Watch group. Neighborhood Watch groups are a smart way to help protect the safety of your community.  Since most crimes happen in isolation, a Neighborhood Watch team is employed to act as an extra set of “eyes and ears” when a police presence is not always available. But a Neighborhood Watch group does more than canvass its community. In most cases, involvement creates an opportunity to get to know those living in your geographical area, helping to open the lines of communication with local police and better overall cooperation among residents in crime prevention efforts. Participating in a Neighborhood Watch group builds confidence and encourages residents to take an active interest in one another’s properties and livelihoods.  If you are interested in exploring this effort in more detail please contact Jennifer Oberlin.

The Executive Committee and Board have decided that there will be an opportunity on the new membership application to also apply to be a member of Crime Stoppers. SFNA will forward your contact information and a $5 annual membership fee to the local Crime Stoppers chapter. The membership into the Crime Stoppers program is completely voluntary. The new SFNA membership application (and information page) will be available in July.

The rescheduled SFNA annual picnic planning meeting will be on Tuesday, June 28 at 6:30 at the Dragon in Downtown Frankfort. This meeting will be an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for the raffle ticket prizes, entertainment options, and confirm the location.

The Annual 4th of July Kid Parade has also had a date change. We previously announced the parade would be on Saturday, July 2, but we have decided we would much rather celebrate the holiday on Monday, July 4. So all the details are still the same, the parade will start at 10 a.m. on the corner of Paul Sawyer and East 4th Street and afterwards there will be an ice cream social at Dolly Graham Park. The promised flyer from the last e-mail is attached.

Lastly, the nominating committee has met and is requesting nominations for candidates for the SFNA Executive Committee. The next quarterly meeting on July 21 is our annual voting meeting and a time when our memberships are renewed. The SFNA membership is based on a fiscal year from July 1 to June 30. The nominating committee is requesting nominations for the following positions: Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and Member at-large.

Remember you may nominate yourself or someone you know for these positions. If you have a name you would like to see on the ballot, please email the information to Christa Sweger by June 30. The nominating committee will then contact those nominated to receive the nominees’ approval to be placed on the ballot. Once the committee receives each nominees’ approval for their name to be on the ballot an e-mail will be sent to the full membership informing them of who is on the slate. Nominations will be accepted from the floor at the July 21 meeting with the approval of the nominee to be added to the ballot. Please see the attached bylaws for additional clarification.

Thank you for your suggestions for the ballot!!
