SFNA July 2014 Quarterly Meeting recap / message from outgoing Chairperson

I want to take a moment and provide you with a recap of our meeting last Thursday night and to give some heartfelt words of thanks as I step down as Chair of this wonderful organization.
Over the past few years, I have had the pleasure of serving as your treasurer, vice chair, and chair. During this time our association has grown through this e-mail distribution list and our Facebook page; however, I encourage even more growth of our organization by attending our meetings, serving on one of our committees, or volunteering to help organize a social event. If your time might not allow you to attend an event, then please mention our organization to your neighbors and encourage them to start receiving our e-mails or come to one of the meetings. The Board is also always open to suggestions on discussion topics at our meetings, so shoot us an e-mail with an idea you have that might be of benefit to our neighborhood.
I will still be involved with the organization on the board in the capacity of Immediate Past Chair, but I am looking forward to cherishing in the newer roles of my life as a newlywed, new mother, and soon to be graduate student. My family is committed to South Frankfort and are excited to see the direction our Association is headed.
I would like everyone to welcome Scott Tippett, your new chair to the Association. He is a retired teacher within the Frankfort Independent School district and lives on West 4th Street. There are some other familiar faces on the Board with Jennifer Oberlin returning as Vice Chair, Christa Burton as Secretary, and Natalie Wilkerson changing roles from Beautification Chair to become Treasurer. Libby Marshall will pick up as Government Affairs Chair, Maryam Kaykavoosi is the new Beautifications Chair, and at the moment Margaret Townsley, Joel Fischer, and myself will continue on as the primary people for the Communications committee.
In addition to the election this past Thursday night, the City of Frankfort announced the applicants for matching residential and business grants through a new pilot program and during their presentation they drew the winners for the grants. We also heard a presentation from the 2010 Randy Bacon Memorial Scholarship recipient, Deshon Floyd, about his fundraising efforts to participate in a semester abroad internship program in Wellington, New Zealand. During the business portion of the meeting, the Association adopted the attached bylaws. There is one more verbal amendment that was approved that will be incorporated into the attached document. It relates to paid members from the previous fiscal year being allowed to vote at the regular membership meeting of the Association since dues are generally not collected until this particular meeting, typically held in July (after the start of the fiscal year which is how our membership is based on). The official minutes of the meeting will be distributed at a later date, but if you wish to have more information on any of these topics, then please respond to this e-mail.
Attached are some additional documents that were referenced at the meeting along with tonight’s City Commission agenda and an updated membership application form. On Thursday, 7/31, there is a meeting of the JLUS Implementation Committee at 5:30. SFNA has a representative on this committee, so please either attend this meeting or respond to this message and we will be able to continue to keep you informed.
Many thanks to all for your support over the years. I am looking forward to now being known as Julian’s wife, Emerson’s mom, and what is she thinking going to graduate school student along with my other titles of Donna’s daughter and that busy LRC employee.
Enjoy the rest of this summer and good luck to all the students starting school next week!
