Frankfort Flood Wall Exercises to Temporarily Close Streets

August 14, 2017 – Frankfort Public Works has announced that its Flood Wall Division will be conducting a routine Floodwall Exercise on Friday, August 25, 2017.

The Exercise consists of installing Floodwall closures at appropriate locations around the City, according to Streets Superintendent Keith Meriwether. The Division conducts the Floodwall Exercise periodically to ensure the system will work properly if needed during potential flooding events throughout the year, said Meriwether.

Installation of the Floodwall closures will result in the temporary closing of multiple streets.  However, these street closings are estimated to last only two to four hours.

At approximately 4 p.m. on August 25 Battle Alley and the parking area behind the Public Safety Building at 300 West Second Street will be closed.

At approximately 8 p.m. on August 25 Bridge Street and the access road behind Buffalo Trace and adjacent to Lewis Ferry Road will be closed.

Citizens are encouraged to find alternate routes during these closures.  Estimated duration of these closures is approximately two hours, however, the closures may last longer depending on unforeseen circumstances.
